Paul M. Anderson was born in San Diego.

 

He served in the USMCR 1961-1969

 

He started SDSC in 1962 received his BSME in 1966 and his MSME in1969.

 

He married Katherine Townsen in 1965. Two children.

 

He worked at General Atomics 1966-2012. He developed remote nuclear fuel handling along with early use of computer control of this equipment 1966-1979.  He directed the first refueling of the helium gas cooled reactor in the spring of 1979.

 

With the slowdown in fission reactor orders in the late 70’s, he transferred to fusion energy development in 1979.  He was the Mechanical Engineering Manager for the DIII-D facility in San Diego1985-2012.

 

He was a Director for  Alfred M. Lewis Inc. (Wholesale Groceries) 1988.  Company sold to Price Club Inc. for $237M.

 

He participated as 1of 4 cyclists on a team in the first and only human powered Race Across America.  Our team, 1 of 4, finished the Los angles to NYC race second in 151.7 hours.

 

At age 15 he built a 14’ boat and learned to water ski.  In 1967 we began a family tradition of annual house boating trips on Lake Powell Utah.  We have over 100 weeks experience exploring this remote and enchanting area up river from the Grand Canyon.

 

He has 7 US patents.
